Chile’s Miners Return to Sunshine and Smiles – Students will read an article about the rescue of the 33 Chilean miners. The help offered by the global community is discussed. A follow-up activity helps children to understand various professions and to consider ways in which teamwork contributed to the rescue. An application question invites students to think about the role of teamwork in their lives. This activity is available on the primary and intermediate levels and correlates with the National Social Studies Standards: Civic Ideals and Practices.
