In Africa with Dr. Kathy

Greetings Maggie Partners:

Most of us in the US are adjusting to the time change this week where for me, falling back into 5:30 p.m. darkness always takes some getting used to.  Oddly enough, I am having significantly less difficulty adjusting to that extra hour of sweet slumber in the morning!

This week our WAP takes a closer look at the Giraffe, that elegant creature gracing the savannahs of Africa.

I remember gasping in awe the first time I came upon this tall spotted mammal, munching casually alongside the road as we left the Botswana city of Maun.  Our group all scrambled for our cameras to snap what would become the first of hundreds of wildlife photos.  Several months later my husband was driving a friend from Angola along a Virginian road when they spotted a dear.  Our Angolan friend was so tickled you would have thought he saw a girafffe!  My grandson was equally enamored the first time he saw a wire haired dacschound, squealing with delight at the elongated weiner dog.  The power of perpective and new discoveries in our everyday lives it what makes life worth living!

Have a great week!

Dr. Kathy
