Happy Holidays to all of our treasured Maggie Partners!

The theme being celebrated around my home this season is ‘cozy’ as I prepare to open my doors to a deluge of family and friends, including my son home from college onthe Emerald Isle.   Not exactly a gourmet chef, I will be enlisting the help of all my guests to pitch in around the kitchen and with hope, together we can recreate some of my grandmother’s favorite recipes this holiday.  This year I feel more blessed than ever being surrounded by my loved ones including my darling grandson who just  celebrated his first birthday last week.

Speaking of my grandson, it’s been such a joy to once again spend time around a small child.  And as I am becoming reacquainted with little ones, I am absolutely fascinated and often flabbergasted by how much has changed for children growing up and learning in today’s digital environment.  Back in the day, I was placed in a corner with a basket of blocks, and they didn’t even come in different colors!  Today’s child is handed a toy where he can sing along to songs while making all different components light up, simulating an orchestra of instruments while mom and dad are connected online monitoring his imaginative play and discovering insights into expanding his learning potential.  It’s incredible!  And this week we’re going to
explore more about how learning is changing specifically as it relates to reading as we continue to migrate into the digital medium.  This week I’m asking the question, what do you think about how the internet and digital revolution is influencing HOW our children LEARN to read?   Please read about this topic in more detail in this week’s Dear Colleague letter and let us all know what you think! Remember, I’m signing off today for a brief holiday break and will return, along with a fresh new weekly and blog post on January 3rd.

Have a safe and happy holiday and see you next year.
