This week I’m home, becoming reacquainted with my brood of West Highland Terriers and taking note of those lovely first signs of spring along the east coast. I approach each changing season with eagerness but springtime is especially sweet.
Tell us what plans you may have in store to get your kids out of the classroom this time of the year.
International World Water Day is less than a month away and until March 22, I’m going to drop more than a few hints about the critical importance of focusing on the issue of clean water. Gross topics like intestinal diseases and worms taking up residence in your tummy are sure to resonate with your kids! You’ll find the conversation may drift to the unpleasantness of fevers, vomiting and that dreadfully deplorable diagnosis, diarrhea which is sure capture their attention. I have learned from years of experience and discussions with former students along the way, just how powerful a tool using real life lessons and that embarrassing vocabulary can reach children in a meaningful way. So face the topic of waterborne illnesses straight on and ignite the future generation while meeting those National Standards in your classroom! I’ve got some great ideas waiting for you in the Dear Colleague letter specifically designed to promote good, clean water practices. And you might even discover lines forming at the soap dispenser.
Happy teaching and happy changing the world.
