Ole Fashioned Inquiry

Maggie Partners:

Last week I spent treasured time with my adorable 15 month old grandson and as always was amazed by how quickly children this age grow, change and learn seemingly every waking moment.  And while watching Bennett negotiate his world and make new discoveries, his voracious curiosity brought to mind a quoteby the famous French playwright, Eugene Lonesco, “it is not the answer that enlightens, but the question.” In today’s teaching environment we are required to spend so much time on test preparation and coaching the correct answers that we need to make a focused effort to create opportunities which promote good old fashioned inquiry learning, the hallmark of sweet childhood.  By encouraging our students to pose questions, we not only foster thinking but we get a unique glimpse into their incredible minds. Check out this week’s  activity which will help you tap into the natural curiosity of your children. After all, we have an awesome responsibility in building the next generation of great thinkers who will lead us down the right path in 2012 and beyond!
