Children learn about the income and expenses of two individuals. They are asked to use the information to perform budget calculations and to understand the complexities of income and expenses. A follow-up simulation is suggested in the Dear Colleague letter. This activity is available on the primary and intermediate levels and correlates with the Number and Operations Strand of
NCTM’s standards and the National Social Studies Standard, Production, Distribution, and Consumption.
