I look at the title and ask myself what I might already know about this topic.

I look at the illustrations and graphs.

I read the section headings or chapter titles.

I make questions out of the section headings.

I look at the words in bold face and think about what those words might mean.

I make predictions about what I might learn.

I think about how fast or slow I will read the selection.
