Testing Time!

As I boarded a plane for Nashville last week, my husband was landing at the same airport returning from a three month stint in Vietman on a project.  And not for the first time, I had an epiphany…my dogs are the only ones these days enjoying a stable home life!  This week, Greg is home and finally reunited, our romantic plans include nursing him back to health after a tooth extraction.  And so it goes.

It’s that time of year when standardized tests are ruling the curriculum and it always gives me pause to think about teachers and evaluations.  Certainly, tests provide some measure of a teacher’s performance, but it’s impossible to shape a complete and accurate opinion of a teacher’s skills just by the results of test scores.  I strongly believe this is only part of the picture.  And having traveled around the world, captivated by how teachers creatively engage their children and encourage role play, without regard to a looming test date, I strongly believe more must be taken into account to fully understand the caliber of instructional excellence in the classroom.  As teachers, we should have the opportunity to provide feedback on our fellow colleagues and learn even more from each other.    What are your thoughts on teacher evaluations?  We would love to hear you weigh in on that topic here at www.missmaggie.org.
