Part Three: Natures Natural Air Pollution Fighters Trees&Going to the Root With Suffixes!
Only YOU Can Prevent Forest Fires!
Ask students to review the triple trouble that forest fires can cause in our atmosphere. One of the ways they may give is that there are fewer trees to take in carbon dioxide. Write the word fewer on the board. Elicit several sentences that use the word fewer. Ask if the class notices a common element in all of the sentences. Then write the word fewest on the board. Again elicit sentences using this word. Discuss the common elements of the sentences containing the word fewest.
Divide students into groups and have them write their own sorts using the suffixes er and est. Combine these sorts and produce one class sort. As students learn to spell these words they should also write sentences so that correct usage is practiced.
