In this article are words that have the /ou/ sound. This can be represented by ou or by ow. Have your students look for words in the article that have the /ou/ sound. They should give you the words power, now, town, out, and around. Write these words on the board and elicit the two ways to spell /ou/. Lead students to the understanding that the /ou/ sound is usually written ou when it is not the last sound in a syllable.
